HSBC North America opened its new headquarters in Mettawa on Wednesday, consolidating 3,100 workers from five Chicago-area facilities into a 560,000-square-foot building where fuel-efficient and hybrid vehicles get preferred parking. Saying it wants to do its part to cut carbon emissions from commuting, the financial-services company also has a program to encourage employees to work from home more often.
With assets of $557 billion, HSBC North America has 50,000 workers in the United States and Canada, including 5,800 in the Chicago area. It was previously headquartered in Prospect Heights.
